How to Style Overalls

Overalls - they seem to be such a divisive piece of clothing. I, for one, really love overalls and think that they are so fun. To me, they’re basically just a denim romper, and what is so bad about a romper? I can understand that they’re not for everyone, but if you do enjoy overalls, then I think you will enjoy these outfits.

With the release of the fall coffee drinks at both Dunkin’ and Starbucks this past week, my excitement for fall has grown twenty-fold. Fall is my absolute favorite season, and I cannot wait for all of the autumnal activities that come with the season. It has been unbearably hot (or maybe I just am a baby when it comes to the heat) where I live recently, which sadly has been making it feel like fall is months away. I love fall style (sweaters, jeans, and boots are some of my favorite clothing items) and I so badly want to start dressing for the fall. However, when the temperature outside is 90 degrees and the sun is beating down on you, a sweater and jeans is the last thing I would want to be wearing. So, I love adding transitional pieces into my wardrobe to help make it feel like I am moving my style along into the next season.

I truly believe overalls can be so adorable, and that they can be styled with so many different looks depending on the top you wear with them. I found this pair of overalls at the thrift store, but they are originally from PacSun. When styled with a cute summer top, like the puff-sleeve floral top (which is also a thrift store find - surprise, surprise) I am wearing below, they make a sweet summer outfit that also is appropriate for the heat.

As the weather cools down, you can continue to pair them with different tops and shoes to cater to the temperature outside. A light, long sleeve top makes for a nice outfit when the weather is just slightly cooler, but not too cold. I found this breezy long sleeve top on my last visit to the thrift store. It was originally from American Eagle, but it was on sale at the thrift store for 50% off, so I got it for only two dollars. There was absolutely no way I was going to pass that up! When the weather gets cold, overalls with long pants would be best, and when styled with a cute chunky sweater and some boots, you have a warm, stylish fall outfit. You could even keep wearing overalls with shorts by adding a pair of tights, some boots, and a long cardigan to keep you nice and toasty through the autumn months.

I am planning on posting a round-up of all of my recent thrifting purchases, which will include another pair of overalls that would be perfect as the weather gets even cooler in the fall months. I truly think that overalls can be so cute, I hope that whenever I style overalls (which I’m sure will happen often since I love them!) it will get you one step closer to maybe liking overalls too!
