Mango Guacamole

If I had to create the ultimate summer BBQ snack lineup, this mango guacamole would absolutely be on the list. My dad has been making this guac for years now, and it is always something my family looks forward to in the summer (and year-round, honestly, it’s always good no matter the time of year). The recipe is relatively basic, but the combination of the super fresh, crunchy peppers and onions mixed with the smooth, creamy avocado and the sweet mango with a punch of citrus from the lime makes for a dip that I believe is truly special.

When our family makes it, we usually don’t add any spice (and it is delicious that way), but I like a little heat in my guacamole, so I like to add a jalapeño to give it just a little kick. Jalapeños tend to be slightly milder than other hot peppers, so I find that the heat they bring to this dip is just the right amount.

I’ve now made this dip for a few parties, and each time our friends are eating it we get the same reaction. They always love the little hint of sweetness, but can never put their finger on what exactly it is. When I tell them it’s mango, they’re always pleasantly surprised and want to add it to their own dips too. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but mango is a really fun addition to this guacamole that adds just a little extra something to the dish.

Even if you’re not a huge fan of mango I think you should give this a chance. The mango flavor isn’t overly forward, but instead is more of a sweet hint in the overall flavor. I love sweet and salty combinations, and this is kind of a play on that, with the addition of spice, which is always a welcomed addition to food in our house. If you’re looking for a fun twist on your usual guacamole, this one is for you. Mix it up and give it a try, I’m sure you’ll love it!
